How it works
Step by step.
Call arrives
The caller dials your business number. Nothing about that changes for them.
Forwards to your real phone
incoming-call.js answers and dials your mobile with a twenty-second timeout. You pick up as normal, if you can.
Watches how it ended
call-status.js runs after the dial attempt and reads the outcome: completed, no-answer, busy or declined.
Texts back on anything but completed
If you didn't take the call, an SMS goes to the caller from the same number they just rang. Missed calls are answered whether the phone rang out or you hit decline.
Caller replies to your real number
Because the text comes from your business line, their reply lands in the same thread as everything else. No parallel inbox to check.
Port your real number
You can start on a fresh Twilio number to test the flow end to end, then port your existing business line across. Porting takes a few business days to about two weeks depending on the carrier, and you'll want to check your current contract for early-termination clauses first.
